Overview
The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is a lower-cost alternative to Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S phones, combining several premium features with an older processor and a larger, heavier body. The US version uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, rather than the Exynos chip found in many international units. Its 6.4-inch AMOLED display supports a 120Hz refresh rate, making scrolling and everyday navigation look smooth. An aluminum frame, glass back, and IP68 water-resistance rating give it a more substantial construction than many budget phones.
The rear camera system includes a 50MP main camera, an ultrawide camera, and a dedicated 3x telephoto camera. That optical zoom option is a useful distinction from similarly priced phones that rely entirely on cropping. Review coverage generally presents the S23 FE as a capable all-rounder, but not an automatic bargain: its appeal depends heavily on the discount relative to newer Galaxy models and other midrange phones. Wireless charging and Samsung DeX desktop support also help distinguish it from simpler alternatives.
Who it's for
This phone suits buyers who want Samsung’s One UI software, a versatile camera setup, and familiar Galaxy features without paying flagship prices. It works well for messaging, navigation, streaming, photography, and ordinary multitasking. Buyers who already use Galaxy watches or earbuds may appreciate staying within Samsung’s ecosystem. The telephoto camera is particularly useful for portraits and framing distant subjects in good light, although it should not be confused with the longer zoom systems on Ultra models.
It is less compelling for people who prioritize a lightweight phone, maximum battery endurance, or sustained gaming performance. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 remains capable, but it is not as efficient as newer flagship chips and can become warm under demanding workloads. If a newer Galaxy FE, a discounted standard Galaxy S model, or a Google Pixel costs only slightly more, compare those options before choosing older stock.
Things to know before buying
Check the exact model and seller, not just the product name. Imported S23 FE listings may use a different processor and can have different network compatibility or warranty coverage. For US buyers, a factory-unlocked US model is generally the simplest starting point, but carrier compatibility should still be confirmed. Separate genuine new inventory from renewed, refurbished, open-box, and carrier-financing offers when comparing prices.
The 4,500mAh battery supports up to 25W wired charging, and a compatible wall charger is sold separately. Storage is not expandable with a microSD card. Samsung promised four generations of Android upgrades and five years of security updates from launch, so buying later does not restart that support window. Consider remaining support, return policies, and the age of stored inventory alongside the advertised discount.
