Our verdict
The original Neo is well suited to short, low-altitude self-filming sessions where portability and controller-free operation matter most. Its lack of obstacle avoidance and limited per-battery endurance make it less suitable for demanding autonomous tracking or prolonged aerial filming.
What reviewers say
"The Neo truly is the little drone that could."
Pros
- +Palm takeoff and smartphone control allow basic use without purchasing a separate controller.
- +The approximately 135 g body is easy to carry.
- +Human-subject tracking and automated shooting modes suit solo social-video creation.
Cons
- −No obstacle avoidance, despite its automatic tracking functions.
- −Approximately 17 minutes of rated flight time with guards limits each recording session.

Frequently asked
Do I need to buy a remote controller?
Not for basic operation. Neo supports palm-based shooting and smartphone control through DJI Fly. The linked B&H configuration does not include a remote.
Does it avoid obstacles automatically?
No. DJI explicitly states that the original Neo does not support obstacle avoidance.
Can it follow me without someone piloting it?
Yes. Palm-control shooting supports automatic human-subject tracking. DJI specifies that subject confirmation currently supports people.
Can it record narration for a vlog?
DJI Fly can record audio using your phone's microphone and merge it with the footage while reducing propeller noise.
How long can it fly with the propeller guards fitted?
DJI specifies approximately 17 minutes under controlled test conditions. Actual flight time varies with conditions and use.
