Our verdict

The FZ45 makes sense as a straightforward snapshot camera for buyers who want optical zoom, a built-in flash, and AA power in a compact body. Its 1080p video ceiling, digital stabilization, and JPEG-only capture make it less suitable for demanding video or extensive photo editing.

What reviewers say

"Just don’t expect stellar image quality and performance at this price."
— Digital Camera World

Pros

  • +A 4x optical zoom and built-in flash provide useful flexibility for casual snapshots.
  • +AA power allows battery swaps without relying on a proprietary battery pack.
  • +The compact body and Auto mode suit straightforward point-and-shoot use, while Program and Manual modes offer additional control.

Cons

  • −Video is limited to 1080p30, with no 4K recording.
  • −Digital-only stabilization and JPEG-only stills limit its appeal for demanding photography.
